This could be an exhibition of some artwork, a projection of a game or some live artwork. This section exists as a resource for anybody who wants to create a visual event.

This section is for:

Artists.

Photographers.

Film Makers.

Graffiti Artists.

What you could do:

The most basic activity would be to find a space somewhere and display your work. We’d like it better though if there was some degree of audience interaction. You might do a Q&A session after your event or even make some new work with help from an audience.

Chameleon are looking a graffiti artist to create a new work on their outside wall. It would be great if someone could paint it as part of Open.

Suitable Places

It’s all dependent on what you want to do. If you want to create art:

Chameleon.

Lee Rosy’s.

Edin’s.

Jam Cafe.

If you want to do an exhibition or screening we’ll probably have to find a seperate space for you.

Equipment

Your work OR

Stuff to create new work.

People like to hear intelligent people talk about interesting things. They’re particularly good for Open because they’re cheap and easy to run, whilst granting a podium for a variety of voices. If you’d like to do a talk at the festival then this section exists as a resource for you.

This section is for:

Anyone who wants to be heard.

What you could do:

You might just think that a talk is a talk, but there are lots of different types of things you can do such as:

Storytelling.

Debate.

Panels.

Unconferences.

Rallying Calls.

Suitable Places

Most venues, depending on the type of thing, but some of the best might be:

Kayal.

Malt Cross.

Cape.

Tonic.

Revolution.

Equipment

It’ll probably be quite little but definitely notes. It’s also worth thinking about any visual props.
Whenever we’ve run craft events before they’ve been very popular. If you’re interested in running a craft event for Open then this page exists to give you an overview of the sort of things you could do.

This section covers:

Knitting.

Sewing.

Origami.

Papercraft.

Cutting and Sticking.

Drawing.

Baking.

What you could do:

The most basic craft events would either be a craft meet-up or a workshop and both are good ideas. They’re even better ideas if you can tie in a videogames theme. Other activities could include collaborative events, competitions or combinations with other event types (e.g. draw some characters for a videogame).

Suitable Places

The Malt Cross.

Chameleon.

Lee Rosy’s.

Edin’s.

Jam Cafe.

The Tent

Equipment

The equipment you’ll need depends on the type of craft you’re doing. Basically you’ll need to bring all the stuff you and your audience will need.

Paper.

Pens.

Felt Tips.

Needles.

Yarn.

Glitter.

Scissors.

Glue.

You get the idea.

Do a talk.

Give a live playthrough.

Run a games development workshop.

Run an indie meet-up.

Do a Game Jam.

Create a game live.

Run a pervasive game based on your game.

Games projections.

That’s just a sample. You really do have a large scope.

Suitable Places

Tent.

Pretty much all our places, dependant on the type of event.

Equipment

Game Console/PC.

Software.

Cables.

Screens.

Peripherals.
